One Week, One Goal #4

November 8th, 2006 at 04:28 pm

By 10p Tuesday 11/14 I will...

Finish last week's goal of organizing the pantry! Also, I will create a viable schedule for reining in the household chores.

I actually have a schedule, but it was set-up for the rental house we used to live in. 900 sqft vs 1700. 1 story vs 2. 1 bathroom vs 2. No stairs, half the windows, yadda yadda yadda... I feel like I'm drowning!

At any rate, I'm tired of playing catchup so to speak, so I'm going to sit down and figure out what has to get done for my particular comfort level. And no, I'm not too worried about DH's comfort level: he's fine as long as there's a path from the door to his chair...

One day I might get brave and post pictures of that chair, but I'm afraid the blog police might fine me for posting something so unpleasant!

LOL. I know what you mean - we moved from 1300 square feet to 2600. IT was so overwhelming for a while. Well until I had 2 babies and dh started to help out a little - gah. Of course I Do not dust or do windows. Maybe dusting on occassion. I am pretty lazy but the house is as clean as it needs to be. Wink Plus with kids (& dh) I just don't even bother 1/2 the time - it stays clean 5 minutes if I Am lucky and then it all starts all over again. So I just clean a lot less often- all the same in the end.

FlyLady is awesome. Just get organized and you will eventually adjust.

i've tried flylady, and i dunno, for some reason it just wasn't doing it for me.

i found something online a couple months ago that i was using, and it's based on what your expectations are for your house: tolerable, tidy, clean, or immaculate. *g* i'm somewhere between tolerable and tidy. DH apparently falls somewhere between pig pen and who cares...

for me it's things like blinds. i can't keep 'em clean, can't figure it out or keep it up, so you know what? i won't have mini-blinds anymore. done!

I'm about there myself on those darn mini-blinds. I like the country-shutter size blinds which are about 2-3 inches across just like mini-blinds only larger. The ones I do have are white, but I'm thinking I may go with some wood-grained looking ones in the future...dust and wood look very similar but the white and dust makes an ugly contrast!

lux, i would love to have plantation shutters or blinds: my house is an oldie and those would look smashing! but since my house is an oldie i'd have to have them custom made and i just can't bring myself to pay for it!!!

i'm going to settle for curtains in the front rooms (aka the Christmas tree room and dining room that has no table!). in the den we have roll-up blinds: cloth/bamboo mix in a nice dust color *g* all it takes is a brushy vacuum attachment and they're good to go!

I don't like flylady. I can't get past someone who puts dirty dishes underneath the sink, just so she can have a clean sink. Uh, huh. And just how long do those dirty dishes stay under the sink? Long enough for me to know I wouldn't want to be putting them there. I'd rather have a messy sink or a clean sink but no dishes under the sink, ew.

Tina--I like single panel curtains. Take down, throw in washing machine, wash, hang up on rods to dry straight. No dusting!
