My house would be so much cleaner if I didn't live here

November 3rd, 2006 at 12:57 pm

Sad but true, ya'll: my house would be cleaner if I didn't live here. Granted, it would still be cluttered...

See, as I dust mopped my staircase I started wondering "where the heck does all this junk come from?!?". So I hunkered down and took a closer look.

There's some sand, which means I need a front door mat. Bah, will have to fight the temptation to get a cutesy holiday one! But without doubt, the biggest contributions to the dust elephants on my stairs were some really long hairs and, um, skin. sorry, gross i know!

I have really long hair and really dry skin. I mean bad dry skin: I itch as soon as I towel off from a shower, and I have friends who say I'm the only ashey white girl they know! Anyways, with long hair and dry skin, apparently I shed a lot. Everywhere, all the time.

And that is why the house would be cleaner if I didn't live here. If I could get DH and the cats out, too, my house would be immaculate!

I'm generally a neat freak, so I don't typically have this problem.... At least not for long anyways. Big Grin

As for dry skin, do you use moisturizer or anything similar? I'm sure there are skin care products out there that could help you with that, though I would not know precisely what they are. Like most guys I know, my knowledge is limited to simply a bar of soap and a bottle shampoo.

oh i would love to be a neat freak... but 1700 sqft only a few hours a week = gaaaaaaaah! i'll just live vicariously through your neatness *g*

as for the dry skin bit, well... i'm working on it. i'm a pseudo health nut so i don't like stuff w/ mineral oil or petroleum jelly. the stuff i really like is *gasp, choke!* $18 for a 8oz bottle. ACK!!!!!

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I don't have a pet hubby roaming around in a 1700 sq ft. pen. I only have to pick up after myself, so I understand if you got your work cut out. Wink

I have terrible dry skin also, so I know how you feel.

Gosh, I didn't know how much animals shed until I took in the kiddoes' pets. Now I have pet hair on and in everything! It's amazing that they shed enough to make a new pet every month. So I feel your pain. They are always burning marshes and have pollution here so the dust is thick and sorta sticky. Drives me nuts. Seems I never get the hair and dust up completely before there is more. Like shoveling sand in the desert.

feeling your pain janH: i have 2 black cats and a tabby with a white tummy. translation? some form of pet hair will always be visible in my house...

this is why i posted in the threads about using the microfiber clothes to dustmop: i can toss the uck right into the washer. my regular dustmop would just sit in the closet with a little Pig-Pen dustcloud all around it!

on the other hand, i'm really happy to have hardwoods b/c it's so fast to just whip a dustmop around rather than vacuum. no plugs, no clogged up beater bar, no choking cloud of dust when you empty the bag. bleech!

Interesting, I didn't realize petroleum and mineral oil were so harmful. I'll be looking more closely at labels from now on. What's the good stuff called?

And just to add - www.crookedmilecandleco.com sells soy hand and body lotion. It's nice stuff, but maybe not strong enough for your dry skin...?

well, it's not that petroluem/mineral oil are necessarily harmful, it's more that they're not beneficial. they sit on top of your skin rather than being absorbed, which can irritate some skin, or lead to break-outs. also, leaves my hands feeling a bit 'waxy'.

by the 'good stuff' i'm guessing you mean which lotion backs me go aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh? Better Botanicals Hand & Body Lotion, Kokum Butter. $18 a bottle locally, $14.99 plus shipping if ordered online.

tried Squalane (or some similar spelling)?

    or sheah butter?

or most any of Arbonne's products? no petro or mineral oil.

or tried greasing up from within...like taking a heavy daily dose of borage oil or evening primrose oil?

hehehe: that's why i eat bacon! *g* i've used shea butter, and currently i have 'kiss my face' peaches n creme. thing is, what works the best is the least convenient: slather up in olive oil and wrap up so i don't stain the furniture! i know, the mental picture is too funny!

Ok, I'm a little late here, but just catching up on the blogs. I use either Cetaphil or Cerave. I've had bad eczema all my life and these creams have helped me. Both are were dermatologist recommended. They are a little pricey, but not $18 Smile
