It's Allowance Day!

October 13th, 2006 at 07:34 pm

I love allowance day... I didn't get one as a kid (just got lunch money for the week on Mondays), so I think that's part of the magic for me. My own little bit of money to do as I please. Woohoo!!

Even better: I still had $30 left over from last week's allowance. It's actually probably closer to $40, but I've started stashing all my change AND my doller bills in a drawer at the end of the day. Can't wait to see how that works out...

At any rate, having $30 left over will more than cover my dirt at the gem mine tomorrow, and a fair portion of dinner. A weekend getway for the cost of 1/4th of a hotel room. How Frugal!!

I to use an allowance system. I however get mine daily. I am curious what do you expect your allowance to cover. I expect mine to cover entertainment food clothing and gas.

Allowance day for me is Monday. That's the day I draw my household money, hit the grocery, buy gas (if needed), and run my errands. What's left over at the end of the week is squirreled away as "found money."

The no-spend challenge carries a side benefit in this regard. I go right on drawing my "allowance," for the week I don't spend. By the end of the challenge, I have a nice little stash of cash. Smile

sarah: my allowance also covers food, entertainment, smokes, gas, and personal splurge purchases (as in i want that green sweater!). major clothing purchases get budgeted into savings. actually, when i say food i mean eating out. if i carry my lunch to work, that comes out of the house grocery budget (like a perk for being frugal!).

bookie: man, wish i had your allowance! wanna trade?
