How pretty! My next flowers will be daffodils (which grow wild here) in late February. Thanks for sharing!

i'm sitting here counting, and i think i have 8? 10? camillias all around my house. 1 bloomed about 2 weeks ago & was white and fragrant, looked almost like a gardenia. the pink puffball one photographed above started blooming at the end of last week. the others are all still tightly budded.

since this is my first year in the house, i have no idea what everything is, what colors they are, or when they bloom. at this rate, though, the camillias may be going until spring! at that point, the 15-20 azaleas should start blooming. who knows!

jan, i love taking pictures, and it's something i think i have a knack for. so, that's what i told DH to get me for xmas: camera accoutrements!

Beautiful flowers! Sure, it's nice in the winter time, but how do you feel about the heat and humidity in the summers?

On a slightly related note, this reminds me about the difference between the north and the south regarding ice teas. In the south, you get sweet tea. In the north, you get unsweetened. In fact, in some places in the North, they don't even have sweet tea as an option.

nice try BA Big Grin according to
Text is http://www.weatherunderground.com and Link is
http://www.weatherunderground.com my area averages 79 degrees and 66% humidity for mid-July. in comparison, NYC averages 77 degrees and 74%, montpelier VT averages 77 degrees and 82%.

    july 13th, 2006 me: high 93 low 73 max humidity 87%
NYC: high 83 low 71 max humidity 93%
montpelier: high 82 low 62 max humidity 94%

    january 13th, 2006 me: high 61 low 46 max humidity 100%
NYC: high 54 low 43 max humidity 96%
montpelier: high 46 low 24 max humidity 100%

don't know what ya'll have against sweet tea. at the same time, there are those around here that serve glorified sugar water: all sweet with no tea. one must reach a delicate balance.

I'd bet you a dollar the top 4 photos are of the rose, "Knockout." Here in the Midwest my Knockouts are still blooming. Knockouts are nearly evergreen here, so they may keep their leaves all winter for you. Prepare for them to grow to at least 6 ft tall and 3 and a half ft wide. Knockout is also wonderfully blackspot resistant and a constant bloomer. Fertilize them and keep them well watered and they will really perform for you. A great organic fertilizer is Mills Magic Mix.

cool joan, thanks!!! this rose has doubled in size since the end of august. we had to cut down a 140 yr old oak tree (it got hit by lightening before we bought the house) that was 7 ft in diameter at the base. needless to say this rose is getting a lot more sun now that the tree is gone! it's more viney than bushy, so i'm thinking of trellising it, but who knows. in that same front patch there also are 2 camillias, an unidentified plant, and something my mom says is wild respberry. ooooh, i hope she's right!!
