I've been blindsided by deer!!!
There I was, happily cruising along in my budget software, enjoying the sights of all this month's bills being paid and it's not even the 20th, when I come to a screeching halt at the sight of my balance.
What? I'm $400 down? ACK!!! OMG, WHAT HAPPENED?!?!?!??
I start careening about, grasping for my check book and clutching my mouse like a suicide strap, repeating the mantra "There HAS to be an explaination SOMEWHERE!!!" I pass some familiar looking debt payments, and remember I had overpaid 3 that I didn't intend to. OK, but where's the REST?
I turn the corner in my software, and there it is, standing right in the middle of my register.
Hunting Season.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhh!
DH's visions of deer from the very beginning of the month leapt out of nowhere and smashed a big hole in the side of my budget before I had even made a budget.
"I'll get you, Hunting Season! You just wait and SEE!!!" Trashing my budget like that...
Irony of it all is I don't particularly like venison, not to mention I could have bought 93% lean ground angus at $0.99 per pound and filled way more freezers than Hunting Season will.
Grrrrrrrrrrr.

Just remember to go ahead and budget some money for it for next year - putting in a little bit each month towards next year's trip. While you are at it budget in a girly trip for yourself for next year as well. You both deserve some entertainment IF you can save for it!
I happen to like venison, but I grew up eating it. That can make a difference.

Hunting season for me = down time to enjoy a nice cozy fire at home.
But it is a budget buster here too.

The entry fee to cheap meat a la venison is very steep indeed. Very. Most people don't go into hunting for the meat of course, but it's a nice side benefit. The only good thing I can say is that, once you past the initial hump, the meat does get very cheap indeed.
But, I guess it also doesn't help if you don't care much for venison. I've had venison before, I agree that it can be rather gamey. However, I have been told before that it depends on how the meat is prepared and then cooked.
None of that helps though, does it? I mean, from the financial point of view that you're in. For what it's worth, I can certainly sympathize.

I guess he's mostly into the "experience" of hunting and the toys that comes with it more than anything?
Because I half-way decent hunter will know how to bag a deer no problem. It doesn't even cost much, but it does take time and preparation....
Well, I'm sorry for you, Tina. I don't know what to say, except that most guys are like that. It's no comfort, I know....
