Frugal Failing when it comes to food.

By 10p Tuesday 11/7 I will...

Clean out and organize my fridge, freezer, and pantry.

I know I've got leftovers in that fridge somewhere, my frugie sense is tingling all over! I've got a mostly full pantry, and completely full freezer, but nothing has a designated home.

Well, obviously the freezer stuff has to stay in the freezer, duh!

What I mean to say is freezer leftovers are mixed around with bags of veggies, potatoes, biscuits, and at least 7 species of meat. Hard to maneuver in there. The pantry and fridge are no better, so I've got a week to work on it.

My boyfriend puts nothing in the freezer in a container that is not labelled. Makes a big difference.

I quite often for me cook ahead, then just reheat. It isn't left overs, but planned make aheads. Then it is just serve it up and eat it. Way different than cooking. I love casseroles for that reason. Make up, then just heat and eat when you want it.

    Hope this is sorta helpful.

Oh and do you have a slowcooker? They are the BEST!

yeah, i'm definitely a 'make-ahead' type person, although i don't have a working oven so standard casseroles aren't really doable right now. i've also got this 'thing' about writing on my containers *blush*, but i am putting more things in clear freezer bags, specifically ingredient items (i.e. grilled chicken, blanched asparagus, 2 qts of rice).

what i'm finding most helpful are a)cheap plastic plates combined with b)glad press'n'seal. make a big meal, make up a plate & seal it up. pop it in the freezer and POOF instant TV dinner. and the plastic plates stack up nicely in the freezer.

the slow cooker is kinda funny: i have one, but won't use it when someone isn't home b/c the cats are liable to knock it over to get a taste!

Hi there- Thsi is off topic, but I was reading though your old posts and see you use Feline Pine for your kitties. When we adopted our kitty, she also used Feline Pine, but then someone recommended that I could buy wood pellets for wood furnaces and the cat wouldn't know the difference. She took to it swimmingly... and it costs about $4-5 for 40#. Other options are Equine Fresh and Woody Pet (available at Tractor Supply stores... and cost similarly t the wood pellets). Equine Fresh smells piney, Woody Pet doesn't. Both are similar in price to stove pellets.
